Free Piercings!!

So the other day, one of my roommates and a few friends decided to go get new piercings! Kinda random, since it was a Tuesday… but they had a solid motivation. Lucky’s Tattoo and Piercing parlor in Northampton was having a Free Piercing Day!!

Unfortunately, they didn’t quite get there in time. The shop was only open until 6:30 that day, so although they made it to the shop before it closed, they weren’t able to get anything done.

But not all was lost! The shop was super generous and gave them vouchers, good through Saturday, to redeem their free piercings!

I’ve heard of the free piercing days that Lucky’s has, usually once a month. I didn’t know that they offered vouchers though! But it makes sense – if a whole bunch of people come to support your shop, and you don’t get to them, you should still take care of them! Because then they’re happy, and you hopefully earn yourself a repeat customer.

And my friends really enjoyed using the vouchers that Saturday! My roommate said they had way more time to pick out the jewelry they wanted. No crowd meant all the space and time to check out the tons of jewelry options the store had. And they were all super stoked that all they had to pay for was the jewelry. They got great piercings, the shop made money – a win-win situation for everyone!

Moral of the story: when I’m able to get my next couple of piercings, I may check out Lucky’s free piercing day. And even if I can’t get it done that day, I won’t stress! I’ll just have to come back on an adventure to cash in on the voucher!

Parents in the Piercing Parlor: A Story

Having a parent go with you when you get a piercing is great! Such a fun experience!

I got a decent amount of my piercings when I was under eighteen, which meant that my mom needed to sign off on those piercings. And while I’m guessing some kids would be embarrassed at needing their parent(s) with them, I was not one of those kids. Nope, having my mom there was great.

First off, I didn’t have to drive into Worcester, which was a HUGE relief. Worcester has roads that believe they’re actually streets, but are in reality reject, awkward sidewalks that masquerade as an option for cars. Second, I got to feel ‘cool’ and ‘cultured’ for understanding what the jewelry in the store was for. My mom is an awesome lady, but not the type to rock a bunch of body piercings (though she tossed around the idea of getting her nose pierced…)

But the BEST part was watching my mom watch ME get a piercing, specifically when I got my rook pierced. When my mom realized that the needle the piercer needed to use was more akin to a fishing hook than a needle, the color drained out of her face. I think she even winced a little and had to look away when the piercer looped it through the designated spots. I’m guessing the idea of her daughter having a fishing hook in her ear made her a little squeamish.

I think her exact words were something to the extent of, ‘If you want to do that to your own body, then by all means! Have fun.’

Despite her brief stint of nausea, she was a fan of the final result. And who knows? Maybe if she was a little bit younger or a little bit braver, she might have swapped spots with me.

Piercing Plans

So some personal stuff here:

I’m not the type of person that gets a piercing on a whim. I take a long time in figuring out what I want; I examine the piercings I already have and try to imagine what would make the perfect addition. A piercing has to seem like a missing part of myself for me to get it. Even if I’m DYING to get a new piercing, I won’t until I’m SURE it’s something I want. Which is frustrating, lemme tell you.

Anyways, I finally had a piercing epiphany! Not only do I want to get my belly button pierced, but I also want to get another conch piercing.

One of my ears is really tricked out – really cool jewelry and more holes than the other ear, which is a little plainer. Just three helix rings and my lobe pierced. So I think I’ll get a big conch stud, parallel to my middle helix piercing. So sweet 🙂 And I’m thinking a nice black opal-studded barbell for my belly button – the greens in it will look great!

… Too bad this plan requires some serious cash… looks like I’ll be scrimping my pennies for a little bit!
